Mountain Man Rendezvous in St. George, Utah

Mountain Man Rendezvous 2019

Anasazi Free Trappers Rendezvous

The Anasazi Free Trappers Mountain Man Rendezvous is coming to St. George this weekend! (April 25-28, 2019) Held at the Stone Cliff Canyon Camp, just off Highway 18 between Veyo and Central. At about 5,000 feet in elevation in the foothills of the Pine Valley Mountains, this 150 acre campground makes the perfect setting for a mountain man rendezvous. This annual event is certainly an experience you and the family don’t want to miss!

What is a Mountain Man Rendezvous?

Are you on the hunt for a real coonskin hat? How about showing off your aim in a muzzleloader shoot? This pow-wow has it all from axe-throwing to archery, venison jerky, sarsaparilla & birch beer! This is sure to be a memorable experience for the whole family. Traditionally, a “rendezvous” (French for appointment, meeting or gathering) is where trappers, mountain men, Native Americans and others would annually gather to sell furs, skins, etc. and replenish their supplies. James Beckwourth, famed mountain man, said of the rendezvous, “Mirth, songs, dancing, shouting, trading, running, jumping, singing, racing, target-shooting, yarns, frolic, with all sorts of extravagances that white men or Indians could invent.” Though some things have changed, the mountain man rendezvous is still a lively outdoor extravaganza that’ll take you back in time.

NOTICE: You might feel out of place if you don’t come outfitted in buckskin britches and a capote, but rest assured, you’ll be able to find all the mountain man garb you could ever dream of right there in camp. Be sure to bring cash as most vendors won’t be accepting card.

Events & Happenings

Pistol Walk Thru, Smoothbore, Shotgun Shoot, Rifle Walk Thru, Silhouette Shoot, Primitive Archery, Knife & Hawk Throw, Children’s Archery, Candy Cannon and more! Different seminars will also be held for all the pilgrims (Mountain man term for a beginner). So, whether you’re a pilgrim or an ol’ Hoss, there’s plenty of fun for all!
