St. George, Utah Senior Games

The Huntsman World Senior Games got its start in 1987, when John H. Morgan sponsored the first event. At that time it was just named the World Senior Games and there were only 500 participants. By 1989, John Huntsman had heard about the games and recognized the value of the event. Not only to the participants, but to St. George and the surrounding area as well, at that time he became the principal sponsor of the event and the Huntsman name was added to the title.

Today there are more than 7,000 participants annually. Participants come for all over the world and all fifty states. The gender breakdown of participants is approximately 67% male and 33% female. The oldest participant so far was been 96 years old.

There are 22 different events at the games including:

  • Basketball
  • Bowling
  • Bridge
  • Golf
  • Horseshoes
  • Swimming
  • Softball

Seniors can register for one or several competitions. However, there maybe scheduling conflicts and no refunds will be given so check the schedules when registering. To qualify to participate in the Senior Games, athletes must be a minimum of 50 years old.

Once the games are underway participants and their registered guest will have access to several free health screening tests including:

  • Cholesterol
  • Blood Pressure
  • Bone Density
  • Hearing
  • Glaucoma
  • And many more.

There are several other events and social activities surrounding the Huntsman Senior Games such as dinners, dances, a talent show, and opening ceremonies just to name of few. 

The games are held in mid-October each year and based in St. George, Utah, which is located far southwest corner of the state. This gives participants a chance to visit some of the most spectacular national parks & monuments. Several are located in the region including Bryce, Zion, and the north rim of the Grand Canyon.
